The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Most robotic vacuums require maintenance, like emptying (and occasionally rinsing) the bin, and wiping sensors and cameras. They also need to be plugged in. Many come with smartphone apps to schedule, adjust settings and more.

The iRobot Roomba 980, the most recent in a line of top-of-the-line best robot wet mop vacuums, is a staple for every modern home. This model is extremely powerful suction and an HEPA filter that will aid anyone who is concerned about allergies. On top of that, it also comes with a powerful battery that can clean up to two hours, and it will automatically return to its dock once its bin is full.

It also comes with the feature of smart mapping which uses multiple sensors to help determine the areas of your home that need attention and create a cleaning route around them. This technology is very effective in navigating around toys that have been left on the floor or furniture legs sticking out underneath things. It also has a camera sensor that will snap the Roomba back to its original position when it starts drifting from its actual location.

iRobot has also introduced a new set of rollers underneath the Roomba's bottom, which do not have bristles, and thus tend to resist tangles more than previous models. These are also a little taller than previous rollers, and will fit better under low couches and beds, and they're designed to help this model navigate more easily across different floor types.

The Roomba 980 differs from other models with a high-end price tag by its brand new dirt detection feature, which uses cameras to detect dirt embedded. This is a nice improvement over the previous model, that relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage technique to bounce around a room and clean it at least three times from different angles.

In our tests of its performance it was found that the Roomba 980 did well on carpets and hard flooring. Its score on low pile carpet was excellent and it got a very high score on mid pile too. It was successful in getting rid of pet hair, but had a difficult time with the long and thick pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the top performing robots in our list, despite these minor limitations. It's also not as expensive as other top-of-the-line models. It's got plenty of features that we'd like to see in a top-of-the-line model however, it doesn't come with all the fancy apps or smart home integration you'll find in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is simple to set up and start running right away. After taking the yellow bin insert and battery pull tab from its undercarriage you simply plug it into the wall socket or one of its Home Base docking stations, click the "Clean button" and let it do its work. It will automatically return to its dock when the battery runs out or it's stuffed with debris, and it also has indicators on the top for when the bin is full, it needs to be recharged, or its Wi-Fi signal is not working.
