The i7 also feels more robust, more durable and requires less maintenance. It has lower recurring costs, charges faster, and offers comparable battery performance. It also has more advanced technology for automation, such as no-go zones and the ability to select the rooms that should be cleaned.

iRobot j7+

This robot vac/mop combo is a rare find, since it does both jobs extremely efficiently. IRobot's Combo j7+ has all the smarts of its j7-based counterpart, including self-emptying and LiDAR mapping however, it also comes with additional features for vacuuming and mopping.

The new acoustic sensors assist the j7+ identify flooring types, meaning it can choose between mopping and vacuuming when it first enters a room. We did find a couple of small niggles with the j7+, mainly that it can snag on cords and carpets, and it doesn't always turn off its mopping once it's done vacuuming. This is a great model that ticks off all the boxes.

The j7+ from iRobot also comes with one of the top self-emptying systems we've tested. It drops its 14oz/0.4-liter dust canister into the base station, and it automatically emptys itself. This reduces the amount of trash you need to dispose of and you'll need to change the reusable dust disposal bag from the dock every 60 days or so, depending on how often you use the J7+.
