How to Replace an audi spare key a5 replacement audi a3 key fob (try g28-car-keys83466.wikipresses.com) G28 Engine Speed Sensor

g28-car-keys-logo-white-green.pngCharles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two pins for the connector and they perform different functions but the most effective way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is functional, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, 3 were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. I put tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump right out. The fourth one remains closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or from a parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you have a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal, and/or a misfire when you are in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. They're inexpensive and easy to locate especially in the case of a Bosch unit like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this component is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of problems in your car. It is a crucial part of your audi spare key replacement's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is rotating. When this sensor fails, it could disrupt the performance of the transmission and the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It transmits a signal via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then processes this signal to control fuel, timig and boost, and also sends it on to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms in these areas. This is a typical part that is found across the audi tt key 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC to the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good parts could be found in wrecking yards.
