Line-up

The band's third album, Turn Back, marked a return to the classic sextet format of previous albums and was a stronger, more consistent effort with a harder edge than Hydra. The more experimental sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the development of the group. Bobby Kimball's growing proficiency was evident in the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had grown more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard playing was also more sophisticated, sharper and less akin to previous recordings.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live performance in Amsterdam which was released as a set of two CDs entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records.
