3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is perfect for off-road terrain and offers an easy ride for babies. They are also more convenient to maneuver and push than a four-wheel buggy especially if they have fabric sling seats or modular seat units that are positioned perfectly within the frame, providing the best 3 wheel travel system geometry and weight distribution.

Stability

A three-wheeler has great stability, which is the reason it is a great option for off-road walks (especially with an all terrain or off-road style seat). They often feature oversized front wheels, which can cope well with bumps and kerbs as well as rough ground. Some have a lockable wheels on the front for additional stability while driving on uneven terrain.

It is important to keep in mind that 3-wheel buggies have lower centers of gravity than their 4-wheeled counterparts, which could mean they can topple over more readily. However, the most reliable 3-wheel pushchairs have an ideal geometry and design to make them very stable in all conditions. They should be able of turning at a single click and be able to steer using just one hand, and feature a 360o swivelling front wheel which makes them perfect for manoeuvring and navigating difficult terrain.

Find models with pneumatic tyres. They are made to work on tracks that are not paved, and should be able to take on mud, gravel, rocks and other debris. Many all-terrain buggies have a swivelling front wheel that can be locked to add stability when tackling extremely rough ground too.

A 3 wheel running buggy-wheeled pram is a great choice for those who run and love to speed up the hill. This is especially true if you plan to connect to a car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is a great example, with a wide-facing seat that can recline flat and features a more comfortable 5-point harness and storage space for all your equipment (plus an extension of 50+ sun hood). It's lightweight, compact and suitable from birth and can be used in conjunction with the use of a car seat or carrycot. It also allows for a bit of moderate jogging, but it's not designed for serious runners.

Weight

If you're seeking a buggy that will take on tricky terrain then you want one with big wheels. They are designed to tackle dirt, cobbles, and grass tracks with ease while providing an enjoyable ride. They're also good for jogging because they come with suspension and are easy to get up and down kerbs. The trade-off is that they're quite heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel double buggy wheel buggy for use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3 wheeled buggy-wheeler has 16 rear wheels and an swivel wheel lockable to the front which makes it very maneuverable. It comes with air tyres which do need occasional pumping and can hold a child until the age of 3. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler loved the shape of the seat, and she found it easy to steer with her three-year-old child on the board.

The Baby Jogger Versa GT is another excellent option. It comes with a movable handlebar, a high-quality hood that provides 50+ UV protection as well as a high quality hood. It's also simple to get up and down kerbs, and it can fit in small car boots. It can also be used as a pram with a carrycot or infant car seat for newborns and toddlers.

Fabric sling seats are tucked within the frame of the buggie instead of sitting on top of it as modular seats. This design delivers a lower centre of gravity and a perfect height, making it easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you can never overestimate how often you'll do this as a new parent!)

Seating

The capacity for 3 wheel stroller for newborn wheelers is quite impressive and there are many different choices to choose from. For newborns, there is the option to use the carrycot and (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cosy and comfortable lying flat bed that can be used on and off the buggy) and older infants and toddlers can use the parent or world-facing seat that is large and cushioned and has adjustable ventilation. It's important to note that these seats do not recline completely, but they can be lowered to the lowest level that will still allow your child plenty of headroom and room to move around.

A sling seat made of cloth is also available. It is placed snugly within the frame instead of on top like an open-back seat. This delivers a much lower centre of gravity and perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier and lighter to push, especially over bumpy terrain or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath loved the way this kind of seat negotiated these obstacles.

Alongside a huge shopping basket, this type of buggy typically has some very useful features like an extended 50+ UV hood, a simple brake pedal, and a few bright, game-changing lights that appear from the handlebar and can be positioned in front of the occupants to increase their safety when traversing difficult terrain.

Alternatively, if you are looking for a single buggy that will grow with your family, there's the brand-new sport(tm) which is the first of its kind to take a single newborn from day dot and then adapt to take 2 or even three once your baby has developed, all within the footprint of one buggy.

Stores

The 3-wheeled frame makes the buggy much more stable to push one handed and also perfect for handling terrain that is difficult to navigate. However, it does mean that the shopping basket doesn't hold as much as a 4-wheeler buggy.

A top-quality ATP will come with pneumatic tyres, a padded grip for better comfort, and an excellent suspension. It will also be equipped to carry the form of a car seat and carrycot so you can use it right from the time you are born.

MFM's reviewers discovered that the 3-wheeler frame didn't fit through their home's doors or car boot. If you're concerned about space, be sure to verify the dimensions of the buggy once it is folded before purchasing.

Look for a 3-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. seats when your family grows - these are the most efficient of both and will help you save money in the future. The iCandy strawberry sport is among the most popular; it can be used as a single unit from day dot, and then transforms to a twin buggies when your baby begins walking.

Tyres

These tyres absorb bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's journey more comfortable. They are commonly found on pushchairs like the Phil and Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath said offered "an exceptional ride for her toddler". She also noted that its grippy tyres made it easy to tackle cobbles and kerbs.

These tyres are sometimes difficult to maintain and must be filled regularly. They are also more vulnerable to punctures than foam tyres so you'll need to ensure that you have repair kits, spare inner tube and pump in case you go out and about with your buggy.

PU tyres are more commonly used on pushchairs since they are less expensive than air-filled tyres, but they are just as durable. You can recognise PU tyres by their matte appearance and soft feel. They also slide on smooth and tidy surfaces.

You can usually identify the difference between PU and air-filled tyres by running your hand over them, if it feels hard then it's rubber and If it slides, then it's a PU. You can also confirm that your buggy has PU tyres by sliding the tyres on a clean, flat surface - they'll be able to roll easily and should fit comfortably in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres can handle the rough terrain of high-performance buggies. The downside of this is that the foam could shrink and make your buggy feel less stable, because it loses its springy nature. You'll also find that these tyres may frequently be noisy, as they create lots of noise when you turn and navigate your way around the town.
