Moreover, headers like the headers for chevy small block engines can contribute to fuel economy under certain driving conditions. The use of small block turbo headers is particularly beneficial in turbocharged engines, where exhaust flow is crucial for turbo spooling and overall performance. SBC headers are crafted from various materials, each offering distinct advantages. Stainless steel variants, known for their durability and corrosion resistance, are common in the small block chevy sbc headers exhaust headers category. The design of these headers, including mandrel-bent tubes, ensures a smooth exhaust flow. Additionally, sbc turbo headers are specifically engineered to accommodate turbocharged setups, optimizing exhaust scavenging for boosted applications.
GM stopped installing big-block V8s in the Silverado HD trucks when the GMT800 series was discontinued in 2007. In May of 1999 CK5 started out as a tribute to America's favorite 4x4 utility truck. Since then it has grown to be a leader among full size Chevrolet K5 Blazer and GMC Jimmy web sites across the Internet. Order with total confidence when you shop at Southwest Performance Parts. It was delineated from the base Firebird model by "S/E" script on the sail panels, in place of the standard Firebird decals, and the Trans Am's dark tinted tail lights. The interior featured color-coded plastics & material to match the exterior/interior paint scheme. On S/E models equipped with the 14-inch or 15-inch "Turbocast" rims, "Bowling Ball" hubcaps were color-coded to match the car's exterior paint.
To provide a simple example, the header should not hang down below the bottom of the wheel. In the graphic below, a low-profile tire provides less ground clearance and therefore the bottom of the header should maintain a higher value from the ground. Producing superior performance through quality craftsmanship and custom design. We treat every exhaust system as if it is to be fitted to our own car, and every client like family. When the mockup is complete, you ship the header back to GPHeaders for it to be replicated from either Mild or Stainless steel.
With extensive use and run time those beautiful chrome plated headers will eventually start peel or flake and start rusting. Chrome headers on show cars that see very little run time (in and out of a trailer) are where this finish is best suited. One option you could pursue to extend the life of your headers is ceramic coating them.
This engine was superseded by the 409 cu in (6.7 L) as Chevrolet's top performing engine in 1961 and went out of production for cars at the end of that year. It was produced through 1964 for use in large Chevrolet trucks. We have spent decades building a community of like-minded car enthusiasts who rely on our quality headers to maximize their engines. Give us a call, send us an email, or drop by our shop for a personalized tour of our facilities.
From the material, exhaust headers are made of lighter, thinner steel, while exhaust manifolds are made of thick iron. When in use, exhaust manifolds create back pressure, which lowers performance. Because each cylinder of the engine is given its own tube, however, headers eliminate this problem; thus, allowing the gases to exit without the creation of back pressure. Therefore, exhaust headers are a BETTER choice than an exhaust manifold.
Our Corvette Parts & Accessories Catalogs have guided thousands of customers through detailed restorations, enhancements and performance modifications. The truck was repainted in white and blue under prior ownership and features a Fleetside bed as well as dual rectangular headlights, dual side mirrors, bright trim, and chrome bumpers. The 2024 Roush Super Duty stands as a testament to Roush Performance's dedication to engineering excellence, blending raw power with refined style.
The highly successful and versatile 427 cu in (7.0 L) version of the Mark IV engine was introduced in 1966 as a production engine option for full-sized Chevrolets and Corvettes. The bore was increased to 4+1⁄4 in (108 mm), with power ratings varying widely depending on the application. With a four-barrel carburetor, the base Turbo-Thrust produced 250 hp (186 kW). A special "Tri power" triple-two-barrel version, called the "Super Turbo-Thrust", produced 280 hp (209 kW). A "Special Turbo-Thrust" upped the power output to 305 hp (227 kW) with a single large four-barrel carburetor.
Most of our techs agree that a street application 350 will benefit well from a header with 1 1/2" to 1 5/8" diameter primary tubes and 2 1/2 or 3 inch collectors. What this size does is creates a faster removal of spent gas and also develops just enough backpressure for a broad torque response. This marked the final production year for the Third Generation platform. Release of the Fourth Generation model was imminent, and Pontiac made few changes to the 1992 Firebird.
Distributors with adjustable collars that allowed adjustments to the length of the distributor shaft also had to be used with 366 and 427 truck blocks. Selecting the appropriate SBC headers requires consideration of the engine specifications and vehicle application. Whether it's for a restoration project or a performance upgrade, options such as headers chevy small block and small block chevrolet headers provide a spectrum of choices for enthusiasts and professionals alike. It's essential to match the header design to the intended use, whether it's for street performance, racing, or a custom setup. Enhanced exhaust flow directly translates to improved engine efficiency and power output.
The steel version of the hood would be used in later years as the centerpiece of the Formula option and in 1990, the remaining inventory of aluminum turbo hoods were sent to SLP for the '91-'92 Formula Firehawks. A new, smaller "Phoenix" was placed upon the Turbo Bulge hood or on the nose of flat hood equipped T/A's. The well-worn Borg-Warner 4-speed manual transmission came mated only to the 145 bhp LG4 305ci, while the Crossfire-injected LU5 305ci rated at 165 hp came with the TH-200c automatic 3-speed transmission.
Later blocks intended for performance use had the main oil gallery moved up to the cam bearing bore area and provided "priority main" oiling, improving the oil system even further. As part of the head redesign, the spark plugs were relocated so that they entered the combustion chamber at an angle relative to the cylinder centerline, rather than the straight-in relationship of the W-series engine. Due to the new spark plug angle, the clearance provided by the distinctive scalloped valve covers of the W-series was no longer needed, and wide, rectangular covers were used. The Chevrolet "big-block" engine is a term for a series of large-displacement, naturally-aspirated, 90°, overhead valve, gasoline-powered, V8 engines; that were developed and produced by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors, from the 1950s until present.
Whether you own a street car or are competing in street or drag racing, Lemons Headers are handcrafted and made-to-order, giving you a custom feel behind the wheel. They are a 1 of 1 design that are only compatible with certain head types. This is incredibly limiting, especially for professional racers who need a no-fuss fit for their exhaust. Firebirds optioned with T-tops received new acrylic plastic tops made by Leximar for GM. The new tops were lighter in weight and tinted darker, but were more dome shaped and aged rapidly.
While selecting the right headers, it's important to consider the specific requirements of your vehicle and engine to ensure optimal performance gains. In addition to purchasing this product, Flashark highly recommends that you purchase Flashark and Spelab's new collaborative product, the silicone coolant hose kit; to replace the stock rubber coolant hose in your car's cooling system. Are silicone coolant hoses better? Coolant hoses transport the coolant—a mixture of water and antifreeze—from the engine to the radiator and back. The coolant absorbs heat from the engine block and heads and then releases this heat through the radiator, where airflow dissipates it away from the vehicle. This continuous flow is crucial for preventing engine overheating, which can lead to severe damage or failure. The structural differences between exhaust headers and manifolds are the material and size.
L69 were built in 1986; it was discontinued because of fuel vapor lock (boiling) problems. ] indicate the 305 TPI engine output was decreased from 210 hp to 190 hp caused by switching to a less aggressive camshaft profile, while others[who? Paint RPO's were changed to reflect the new base-coat/clear-coat paint process. American Sunroof (ASC), licensed by Chevrolet to build the 1987 Camaro convertible, also built three 1986 Trans Am convertibles as a "design exercise".
Once a Formula had been ordered or purchased, this limited-availability option (RPO code B4U) could be specified, and the vehicle was sent to SLP to be modified. No two cars SLP produced were alike; they all were special orders. Of those 25 Firehawks, 21 were "Mandatory" Red, 1 Aqua, 1 White, 1 Blue, and 1 Green; 11 had the Competition Package, 3 came with aluminum engine blocks, 1 had T-Tops, and 1 was a convertible. The interior now featured aircraft inspired details and gauges, using both fake and real Torx head screws that fastened the dash and console trim panels. A 3-spoke steering wheel was used and featured a clear plastic 3D Firebird logo button, mounted in the center of the horn pad, with optional leather grip.
However, that sort of look is best suited for trailered show vehicles and not those expected to travel city streets that may include driveways, v-drains or dips, speed bumps, or other hazards that could damage the Zoomie header set. Here is an example of a small block Chevrolet D-port cylinder head that requires the Sanderson D-Port header flange. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission and a Ford 9" rear end.
It utilized new "low density" taillight lenses with a grid-style pattern rather than the "louvered" pattern in use since 1981. The Trans Am came standard with the "High Tech" 15-inch concave aluminum wheels from the previous year, but it was also now available with the a version of the 15th Anniversary's WS6 suspension and its "Aero Tech" 16-inch aluminum wheels, but in finished Natural Silver. A Borg-Warner 9-bolt differential was made available for the first time, and was said to be stronger than the standard corporate 10-bolt axle. The standard rear spoiler from previous years was still standard, but an optional wrap-around "Aero Spoiler" was now available in black and gave the car a new more modern look, (it is unique for 1985 & 1986 as it had a texture).
Mid-year, TPI-equipped cars only received blank throttle body plates rather than ones that had been marked "TUNED PORT INJECTION" on similar engines in prior model years; and black-painted valve covers replaced the silver components from previous years. As use of the L98 in the Corvette had come to an end, rough-cast runners found their way into L98-equipped Firebirds, and some cars received special rubber snubbers on the rear hatch frame that were designed to make the hatch more stable. This would be the last year for the light weight deep dish cross-laced wheels that had been available since 1987, and had been styled to look like expensive aftermarket rims. It would be the last year for the GTA, the last year for concealed windshield wipers, and the last year for the aerodynamic body with the long hood and low roofline. It was also the last year for full leather covering on the front seats.
At Walker, it's more than peace of mind in knowing we lead the industry with unparalleled level of compliance. It's more than our precision-fit or full engine-to-tailpipe product offering, Walker sets the standards. Recommended installation to the engine is high temperature RTV such as Ultra Black® without a gasket. Some have used the original equipment type MLS (multi-layer steel) gaskets with good success. We recommend using solid copper gaskets to avoid blowouts at that joint.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear axle. The transmission is said to have been rebuilt under prior ownership. An aftermarket dual exhaust system has been fitted and terminates before the rear axle.
Gold 16-inch, flat-mesh, diamond-spoke wheels were standard on GTA, with 16-inch, 20-slot wheels standard on Trans Am. The Trans Am's basic layout was very similar to the earlier 1983 Trans Am, except they were now available with the optional RPO W62 ground effects package, previously used on the 1983 Daytona Pace Car Edition. Another new for 1984 option was the "High-Tech" 15-inch, 20-slot, concave aluminum wheels, painted gold or silver, with black plastic centercaps containing a gold or silver Firebird logo. L69-equipped Trans Ams also received an 8,000 RPM tachometer, an 80 PSI oil pressure gauge, a high-output single electric fan, a functional cold-air induction hood, a higher output mechanical fuel pump, and a secondary electric fuel pump to help prevent vapor lock. The Trans Am came standard with a new incarnation of its traditional "Air Extractors" on the fenders.
It had slightly reduced power compared to the L and used a different PCM. The L21 was paired with the early 4-speed Allison automatic transmission or manual transmission, depending on the application. Beginning in 1969, the highest performance 427 models were fitted with the new open (vs. closed) chamber cylinder heads, along with design improvements in crankshafts, connecting rods, and pistons, adopted from the Can-Am development program. The first iteration of the W-series engine was the 1958 "Turbo-Thrust" 348-cubic-inch (5.7 L), originally intended for use in Chevrolet trucks but also introduced in the larger, heavier 1958 passenger car line. Bore and stroke was 4+1⁄8 in × 3+1⁄4 in (104.8 mm × 82.6 mm), resulting in a substantially oversquare design.

Pit Stop USA has everything you need to build a winning race car or street machine and get you to the finish line first. Many like to have that scraping-the-ground look on their street rods.
This also allowed GM to experiment with some of the new technologies which were to be implemented on the fourth generation cars. The Formula was the only third-generation F-body to get to T-tops with a 350 cubic inch engine starting in MID year 1991 & 1992, to get a FORMULA 350 T-top car the black cross laced wheels (as installed on the Trans AM) were mandatory. With hundreds of customized header applications, a team of loyal and talented employees, and a community of racing enthusiasts, we are honored to be a part of the legacy, Dan Lemons has built. There are plenty of header options for the most famous engine of all time, but after many years and many Jeep conversions, we've narrowed our favorites down to these block-hugging, short style headers for the Small Block V8 for nearly all models of Jeeps. Tri-Y headers get their name from the design of the primary tubes. One header will have four primary tubes which Y into two secondary tubes and finally Y again into one collector creating three Y connections, thus the name Tri-Y.
Some common types of shorty headers are block hugger, tight tuck, and clipster headers. This 1939 Ford Deluxe coupe was turned into a street rod under prior ownership, and it is powered by a 350ci Chevy V8 mated to a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission. Finished in black with red pinstriping, the car features a chopped roof, shaved exterior, louvered hood, rear fender skirts, tunneled taillights, and chrome bumpers. Front disc brakes have also been added along with a dropped front axle and a Ford 9″ rear end.

Brand-new, reasonably priced, high-performance, drop-in engines that are dyno-tested with full warranty and ready to run. The Vortec 7400 L29 7.4 L (454 cu in) V8 was a truck version of the Chevrolet big-block engine. Introduced in 1996, it was produced for five years, until replaced by the Vortec 8100.
Exterior details include a louvered hood, a single-piece windshield, rear fender skirts, tunneled teardrop taillights, chrome bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets. The car is not equipped with windshield wipers, and delamination is visible in the glass. To order a Firebird Convertible, the dealership would order a T-top Firebird and have it drop shipped to ASC, One Sunroof Center, Southgate, MI for the conversion alongside "Factory" Camaros. Once complete, ASC would ship the now Firebird convertible to the participating dealership for delivery.
Aside from the new cylinder head design and the reversion to a conventional 90 degree cylinder head deck angle, the Mark IV shared many dimensional and mechanical design features with the W-series engine. The cylinder block, although more substantial in all respects, used the same cylinder bore spacing of 4.84 in (123 mm) with a larger 2.75 in (70 mm) main bearing dimension, increased from the 2.5 in (63.5 mm) of the older engine. Like its predecessor, the Mark IV used crowned pistons, which were castings for conventional models and impact extruded (forged), solid skirt types in high performance applications. Small block Chevy (SBC) headers are critical components in the automotive performance realm, designed to enhance the exhaust flow from the engine, thereby improving horsepower and torque. These headers are suitable for a variety of vehicles, catering to the diverse needs of the small block Chevrolet engines. We often see confusion in what is considered a D-Port cylinder head for small block Chevrolet engine applications.
See measurements to check that they really fit your car / bodywork / chassis. There are a few different styles of header lengths out there today, and here are the two most common; "shorty" and "full-length" which are also called long tube headers. The cabin features a bench seat trimmed in white and red vinyl upholstery that carries over to the door panels and trunk. A Lokar shifter has been installed along with a red headliner and carpets. Information comes from 1989 ASC Order log, the Order log show only 324 of the reported 330 convertibles, as of May 2022, two of those missing 6 vehicles have been identified and added to the above data. As a side note there are a known 5 L98 Powered Camaros made in 1987, making the total number of L98 Powered Firebird and Camaro Convertibles produced some of the rarest and sought after third Gens made with a total of around 204 produced for both lines all years combined.
Shorty headers usually work best in limited space engine bays, as well as lowered cars. They will also usually work well with your factory exhaust system, should you choose to keep it. You can get the most for your time and money by buying a set with equal length primaries. These will scavenge gas from each of your cylinders equally, meaning your power is consistent and your torque curve broader in the low to mid-range spectrum.
The program administrator will replace the cost of the covered part of a period of 12 months after the manufacturers warranty elapses, or from the date of purchase if the manufacturer does not offer a warranty. I received my upper control arms yesterday and couldn’t be more impressed with them. I only bought them because of the great price and wasn’t expecting much, but when I opened them up and saw the size, quality and construction of them it blew me away.

It also was the most aerodynamic production Firebird to date with a drag coefficient of 0.33. The new Trans Am took things a bit further, with a coefficient of .32.[6] The Trans Am body would continue to improve aerodynamically over the years, and by 1985 would be the most aerodynamic vehicle to ever be released from General Motors with a 0.29 coefficient of drag. Wind tunnels were used to form the third-generation F-Body's shape, and these aerodynamic developments were fully taken advantage of by Pontiac's design team. The sleek new car had a low slung front end which featured split grilles. They fed some air to the radiator but most of the air came from an air dam underneath the front bumper.
The spark plugs were inserted vertically into the quench area, which helped to produce a rapidly moving flame front for more complete combustion. Chevrolet had introduced its popular small-block V8 in 1955, but needed something larger to power its medium duty trucks and the heavier cars that were on the drawing board. The big-block,[11] which debuted in 1958 at 348 cu in (5.7 L), was built in standard displacements up to 496 cu in (8.1 L), with aftermarket crate engines sold by Chevrolet exceeding 500 cu in (8.2 L). In conclusion, SBC headers are a pivotal upgrade for those looking to enhance their vehicle's performance. With a variety of types available, from chevy headers 350 to shorty headers for sbc, there is a header set to meet the needs of any small block Chevy engine configuration.
On the other hand, stainless steel headers will not rust or corrode but cost more up front. The Grant GT steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column, and white-dial Dolphin instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. Like the Camaro, the 1990 Firebird only received a half-year production run, as Pontiac labored to release the restyled 1991 model.
A Covered Part has failed when it can no longer perform the function for which it was originally designed solely because of its condition and not because of the action or inaction of any non-covered parts. The benefits available under this Limited Warranty are strictly provided to you for the replacement of the Covered Part(s) which fails due to a defect. Dial in the right header for your vehicle by narrowing your results with the useful filters below.
The push rods also acted as conduits for oil flow to the valve gear. Due to the relatively low mass of the valve train, mechanical lifter versions of the W-series engine were capable of operating at speeds well beyond 6000 rpm. At Lemons Headers, our company has spent over 25 years building specific jigs for a variety of Chevy models. This means we can build the perfect header for our clients, whether they are in the area or live halfway across the world. Our jigs give us the ability to handcraft a header for any cylinder head while also accommodating different deck heights.
All center, high-mounted stop lamps were relocated to a new position under the glass on the deck lid, and the large Firebird hood emblem disappeared forever. All V8s now received factory roller camshafts, and faced with consumer demands for more power, GM officially released the new 5.7L with tuned port fuel injection. Available only with an automatic transmission, it produced 215 hp and takes the top performance seat from the 5.0L TPI which was rated at 205HP. The 5.0L TPI, however, was available with a 5-speed manual transmission and, in fact, was quicker than the 5.7L TPI coupled with the automatic transmission. L69 production was stopped, leaving the LG4 as the only remaining carbureted V8 used in the F-body. Trans Am GTA (Gran Turismo Americano) was introduced, available with the LB9 305 TPI engine (which was returned to 205 hp) or the L TPI.
For this reason, Pontiac did not directly offer a convertible through dealers like the Camaro. However, these were not an official Pontiac offering, they are considered coach convertibles. The conversion of the Firebird was identical to the "factory" Camaros of the same model year. The exception was the obvious cosmetic changes, the rear quarter caps, spoiler (which was a base model spoiler cut off) and the high-mount third brake light were Firebird convertible specific. Firebird Formula was re-introduced, available with a choice of V8s (LG4, LB9 305 TPI, or L TPI), 16-inch convex wheels, and the earlier Trans Am "Turbo Bulge" hood.
Midyear, Pontiac introduced a new light-weight, cross-lace wheel, available for the Trans Am. Apart from the ease of a perfect fit, we want to help your car achieve superior performance. With that in mind, the dimensions of your header will impact your cars overall performance. When sizing a header, some obvious points to consider would be displacement, compression ratio, and horsepower.
Hardened valve seats further increased reliability and helped allow these engines to last much longer than the earlier versions, even without the protection previously provided by leaded fuel. 1974 was the last year of the 454 in the Corvette, although the Chevelle offered it in the first half of the 1975 model year. It was also available in the full size Impala/Caprice through model year 1976. It gained its nickname due to the incredible speeds cars equipped with it attained during its debut, being considerably faster than the well known W-series powered cars. This "secret" engine was a unique design incorporating aspects of both the W-series and the mid-1965 introduced Mark IV,[19] referred to in sales literature as the "Turbo-Jet V8". Our team of passionate perfectionists are committed to providing the handmade, custom header that will revolutionize your vehicle’s performance.
All V8 engines received serpentine belt systems and the air conditioning compressors were moved to the passenger's side of the engine, de-cluttering the engine compartment. The Firebird Formula received new high tech 16x8-inch aluminum wheels with distinctive silver "WS6" center caps. The GTA wheels were slightly restyled, and the convex 16-inch wheels were dropped as all Trans Ams received the 16x8-inch diamond-spoke aluminum wheels, available in different colors (white, red, charcoal, and black) in addition to the GTA's gold. The GTA received a new steering wheel with integral radio controls. The Trans Am was made available with body-colored ground effects like those on the GTA. All Firebirds received center, high-mounted stop lamps to comply with Federal legislation; these were placed on top of the back hatch window.
Chevrolet gave all 427 engines except the ZL1 a torque rating of 460 lb⋅ft (624 N⋅m). Many engine conversions will be up against manual transmissions. We offer pilot bushings for just about all of the combinations that we've encoutered over the years. Our Chevrolet V8 engine mounts are designed to make the installation go as well as possible, and to give you the installation flexibility your project may need.
The 366 cu in (6.0 L) big-block V-8 gasoline engine was used in Chevrolet medium duty trucks and school buses. It had a bore and a stroke of 3.935 in × 3.76 in (99.9 mm × 95.5 mm). This engine was made from the 1960s until 2004.The 366 used 4 rings on the pistons, as it was designed from the very beginning as a truck engine. The 366 was produced only as a tall-deck engine, with a deck 0.4 in (10 mm) taller than the 396, 402, and 454 short-deck big-blocks.
These mockup header components are sized for PVC tubing which are used to easily and quickly connect the "bends" of the header. Some Zoomie headers are offered in two lengths, either a standard 16″ (40.64 cm) or a longer 19″ (48.26 cm). It is relatively easy to determine the length needed for the application.
All Firebird models underwent redevelopment to boost sales as a number of power train improvements were introduced. The Firebird received a restyled nose with black wrap-around inserts known as "bumperettes" to replace the grille inserts; wrap-around "bumperettes" were also added to the rear bumper. The tail lights remained unchanged from the previous "louvered" style design. The carbureted V6 was replaced with a new, multi-port fuel-injected 2.8L V6 making 135 hp. The RPO "Y84" & "Y81" Recaro Edition Trans Am S/E's were slightly revised. The exterior still featured a Black painted body, but gone was the Gold paint on the lower half of the body.
Header wrap or exhaust wrap is a very effective way to reduce under-hood temperatures. It works by insulating the header tubes retaining the heat inside the headers and greatly reduces the heat radiating from the headers. It can be used in nearly any application and is available in black, white, and titanium colors (titanium is shown below). It is easily secured to the header tubes using header wrap ties or stainless steel hose clamps.
The interior still featured its namesake tan leather Recaro seats. This was the swan song year for Pontiac's black and gold RPO "Y84" Trans Am S/E's, and 1,321 Recaro T/A's were produced. This 1986 Chevrolet C10 Scottsdale pickup is powered by a 5.3-liter Vortec V8 linked with a 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission and the truck is finished in white and blue over blue vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a Belltech lowered suspension, 20″ American Racing wheels, power steering, power front disc brakes, an aluminum radiator, and Speed Engineering long-tube headers.
Mark IV engines saw extensive application in Chevrolet and GMC medium duty trucks, as well as in Blue Bird Corporation's All American and TC/2000 transit buses (the latter up until 1995, using a 427 with purpose-built carburetor). In addition to the 427, a 366 cu in (6.0 L) version was produced for the commercial market. Both the 366 and 427 commercial versions were built with a raised-deck, four-bolt main bearing cap cylinder to accommodate an extra oil control ring on the pistons. Unfortunately, the raised deck design complicated the use of the block in racing applications, as standard intake manifolds required spacers for proper fit.
All of these features combined to provide a low coefficient of drag. The front end of the vehicle featured 10.5-inch (270 mm) power disc brakes and were now standard on all Firebird models. Taking styling cues from the 1981 design, the new car had full width tail lights, complete with a Firebird emblem in the center. The all-new suspension design was more advanced and aggressive than anything Detroit had offered previously, easily rivaling the Corvette's handling abilities, (but not its sophistication). The front suspension utilized MacPherson struts, with inboard mounted coil springs and lower front control arms. In the rear, coil springs and shocks were positioned between the body and solid rear axle, with twin rear lower control arms/trailing links and a torsion bar, replacing the old-fashioned leaf springs design used previously in the 2nd generation Firebird. A huge torque arm was mounted from the transmissions tailshaft to the rear axle center to further stabilize the axle's tendency to twist.
This aerospace and military-grade technology adds excellent protection to your headers while offering the benefit of thermal control in your engine bay. It also improves cylinder scavenging of exhaust gases and increases the longevity of your header investment. An even more powerful version, producing 465 hp (347 kW) and 610 lb⋅ft (827 N⋅m), of the 454, then dubbed LS-7 (not to be confused with the modern, mid 2000s, 7-litre Chevrolet Corvette engine that powered the C6 Z06, which is an LS7). Several LS-7 intake manifolds were individually produced and sold to the general public by a few Chevrolet dealers as optional performance parts. The LS-7 was later offered as a crate engine from Chevrolet Performance with an officially rated power minimum of 500 hp (373 kW) gross.
The special edition Formula Firehawk that appeared in 1991 was still available, although a lot of dealers were unaware of its existence. The lack of awareness and a sky high price tag conspired to keep the sales figures down on the special Firehawk. As for the rest of the line, new exterior colors were available, including a bright "Jamaica Yellow". One interior color was changed, from the camel colored beechwood to a greyish beige. One improvement made on all 1992 F-bodies was the addition of some extra bonding agents to stiffen the structure of the cars. The extra bonding was an attempt to correct squeaks and rattles that some owners had complained about.
Designed to fit the standard 23 degree small block chevy cylinder heads, these bolt-on turbo headers are the perfect solution to any turbo header packaging concerns. Pontiac was asked to provide a car to pace the 73rd running of the Indianapolis 500; it would be the final time a Pontiac would ever receive that honor. The Trans Am model was now 20 years old, and it was time for another anniversary edition, with this special 20th Anniversary Trans Am to be based on the existing Trans Am GTA. Ultimately, 1,555 TTA replicas, rated at 250 hp, were produced for sale, five of those being test cars. But short-distance sprinting was not all this car could do well.
Full-length or long tube headers are the most recognizable header setup, usually consisting of long primaries tubes converging into a 4-into-1 style collector. The long primary tubes reduce the chance that you will have back-feed of gases into a different tube. These headers help to produce the most overall power with a broad spread through the low- to mid-rpm ranges. The roof was chopped and the exterior was shaved before the car was refinished in matte black with red pinstriping.
Amazing product and would highly recommend them to everyone looking to upgrade their upper control arms. These are currently offered with 1.75" 11ga primary tube size, with a 2.50" manifold size and vband outlet. In 1979, the company was founded with Pete's Performance, which was a small speed workshop.
The custom interior is trimmed in red and white vinyl and outfitted with a Lokar shifter, tilt steering column, and Dolphin instrumentation. This customized ’39 Ford is now offered with a clean Texas title in the seller’s name. The Firebird remained basically unchanged from the previous model year. All automatic transmission Firebirds now received a T-handle shifter knob, and the shift indicator changed for the Automatic Overdrive 700-R4. Midyear, the L69 high output 305 cubic inch engine was introduced. In all forms (except the aluminum ZL-1), the Mark IV was slightly heavier than the W-series model, with a dry weight of about 685 lb (311 kg).
But we also want to consider the level of torque your car needs which is affected by the tube size. Maybe you want to add a little flare and protection with a strong timeless ceramic finish. When working with experienced header builders like Lemons, we can provide our input to optimize your exhaust.
The problem originates in the technical understanding of what constitutes a true D-PORT versus a D-shape. The D-Port roof extends well above the centerline of the exhaust port, whereas the D-shaped port fits nicely inside what is deemed a standard port dimension. As shown in the graphic below, the d-shape easily fits within the common round or square port flange opening. Many specialty header designs such as Lake Headers, Lake Pipes, and Zoomies are designed to be era correct for certain car builds.
Early in 1989, Motor Trend ran their top speed test article "Flat-out Fastest American Cars II-the Sequel". During this test, the TTA did 162 mph, and was the fastest production car evaluated in the test. In fact, with $300 in new parts installed, 12.5-second quarter-mile runs were achievable – without manually shifting gears or the need to trailer the vehicle to the track. Because of this, the TTA has gained a cult following among amateur racing enthusiasts. The LG4 & L69 continued on, but a new fuel-injected 305ci was now available in the Trans Am. The LB9 Tuned Port Injection (TPI) 305 was released, using a tuned runner design.
To provide clearance for that long-stroke, engineers modified both the block and the connecting rods. Four-bolt main caps and a forged rotating assembly assure strength and durability. During development, a single engine endured more than 200 simulated drag strip passes on a dynamometer. From 1991, the 454 was updated to the new Gen V block, crankshaft and heads.
Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the booster is mounted below the floor. All Firebirds received restyled noses loosely fashioned after the "Banshee IV" show car while Pontiac was developing the all-new fourth-generation platform. The Trans Am's ground effects were re-styled as well, and were made available as an appearance package on the base model Firebird, but unavailable on the Formula. The rarest 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Ams are the hardtops and convertibles.

The 5.3-liter Vortec V8 was installed in 2022 and is said to have been sourced from a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. An Edelbrock air cleaner, an aluminum radiator, electric cooling fans, and Speed Engineering long-tube exhaust headers have been fitted. The Vortec 7400 L21 was a commercial version of the Chevrolet big-block engine used in the medium duty truck platform. Its design shared much with the L29 454, but with the addition of forged pistons and crankshaft, and coil near plug ignition.
An early roadster or coupe with a set of loud and proud Lake Headers brings back the early days of Salt Flat racing. Nothing makes a statement quite like a high powered V8 engine firing up with a set of Zoomie headers. They have been a staple of the drag racing scene since the beginning and what better way to say "I came to race" then a set of Zoomies. The 350ci Chevy V8 crate engine is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor, an aluminum intake manifold, and short-tube exhaust headers.

GM sold the Vortec 8100 to Workhorse (now a division of Navistar), making it one of the most popular engine choices in gasoline-powered Class A motorhomes during the early 2000s.

The Mk4 Complete kit gives you everything you need to build your car, in one big package. The only things you’ll need are the engine/transmission/rear end, wheels/tires, and a paint job.
The all-aluminum 1969 ZL1 version of the 427 engine was developed primarily for Can-Am racing,[citation needed] which did not require homologation to compete,; it was very successful in cars like the McLaren M8B. The ZL1 specifications were nearly identical to the production L88 version of the 427, but featured an aluminum cylinder block in addition to aluminum cylinder heads. The first Corvette with the RPO ZL1 engine package was built in early December 1968 and featured aluminum closed chamber heads shared with the L88. Both L88 and ZL1 optioned cars continued to be built with closed chamber heads until approximately March 1969, when the open combustion chamber aluminum heads finally were in production and began being fitted to the L88 and ZL1 engines. The ZL1 engine also featured a lightweight aluminum water pump, a camshaft that was slightly "hotter" than the L88's, and a specially tuned aluminum intake manifold.
This header design will typically add low to mid RPM torque without sacrificing top end horsepower. Another reason for their popularity is that some tight clearance applications a Tri-Y can be constructed to fit when there is no room for traditional 4 into 1 long tube headers. Don’t go out and buy a 1 7/8 inch primary tube header for your street driven 350, which is what is commonly considered overkill.
New tail light lenses were now introduced on the base Firebird, completing the replacement of the "slit" or "louvered" taillight lenses that had been a Firebird signature since 1967. The 2.5L 4-cylinder engine was dropped, replaced by the multi-port fuel-injected 2.8L V6 as the standard engine. The Firebird S/E model was discontinued at the end of the year.
The original Small Block is compact and these headers compliment that and work well in most all applications. The best thermal and corrosion protection for your headers is our Aluminized Ceramic Coating. This finish offers the added benefit of lower under-hood temperatures and the highest level of protection to the header. These Headers are all Mandrel- bent out of 1.75″ 16 gauge tubing, heliarc welded 3/8″ thick lazer cut flanges, with 3″ collectors.

The entire premise behind an aftermarket exhaust system, as well as headers, is to allow for enhanced evacuation of exhaust gases. If these gases remain in the combustion chamber, they will be taking up space better used by fresh air and fuel.
GM replaced many sets with tops made of glass under warranty, but the acrylic tops continued as standard-issue through 1992. All Firebirds optioned with rear disc brakes now received PBR brake calipers and larger brake rotors, which resolved issues encountered with previous-model rear discs and increased stopping power. Introduction of GM's Vehicle Anti Theft System (VATS) or PASS-Key made all Firebirds more theft-resistant. The system was adapted from GM's higher-end Corvette and Cadillac vehicles in response to an escalating trend among car thieves to target the Camaro and Firebird. VATS incorporated a small resistor into the ignition key shaft which was read by a sensor when the key was inserted.
GM stopped installing big-block V8s in the Silverado HD trucks when the GMT800 series was discontinued in 2007. In May of 1999 CK5 started out as a tribute to America's favorite 4x4 utility truck.

Whether it is our handcrafted, custom-made Chevy headers or our tried-and-true reputation, we are proud to be revered in the auto industry.

Made of heavy wall, American Made stainless steel pipe, these modular log manifolds can handle the heat and vibrations that come from a turbocharged engine build. They are a great bolt on turbo header for nearly any factory or aftermarket small block chevy sbc headers turbo header application. Maybe you are gearing up for street racing and don’t want to waste time fiddling with an ill-fitted header. From the street to the track, a custom header is key to your car attaining peak performance.
] there were no 350 TPI L98 cars made in 1986 according to Pontiac. The Recaro T/A was no longer available, but cloth Recaro seats were optional on the Trans Am. Join our email list to receive the latest tech updates and products, tuning tips, and newsletters.
